ASSP’s Safety Professional of the Year Award

We are happy to announce that Greg Zigulis was recently selected to receive the American Society of Safety Professionals’ (ASSP’s) Safety Professional of the Year award for the Council on Practices and Standards (CoPS) for 2024. Congratulations, Greg!

Greg has been an ASSP professional member for 34 years and has helped advance occupational safety and health in many ways. He will be honored at ASSP’s Safety 2024 Professional Development Conference and Exposition, held Aug. 7-9 in Denver. The global event will bring together thousands of safety professionals to learn about best practices, industry trends and the latest product innovations in workplace safety and health.

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has a number of opportunities to volunteer in activities intended to help further the safety profession. Some of those opportunities to contribute are through participation and contribution to the ASSP’s “practice specialties” and in consensus standards development activities. Greg Zigulis has participated in both types of activities to include through the Consultants Practice Specialty, the ANSI/ASSP Z10.0 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) standard committee, and the ANSI/ASSP Z590.3 (Prevention through Design) standard committee.

The Z10.0 standard provides criteria for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS). The primary purpose of this standard is to help organizations improve their safety and health performance by reducing the risk of occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. It provides a comprehensive framework for organizations to develop, implement, and maintain effective safety management systems.

The Z590.3 standard helps safety professionals and their employers incorporate Prevention through Design concepts into decision-making related to the design and redesign of work premises, tools, equipment, machinery, substances, and work processes.

Greg has also previously won Safety Professional of the Year awards for the ASSP’s Greater Detroit Chapter, and the ASSP’s Consultants Practice Specialty group.
